We're starting 2025 off with a very special Jazz Explorers event! Join us on Wednesday, January 8th at 6pm, for “New Year, New Jazz", where we will be listening to the new album Silver Street from Jacob Wendt, plus we will be joined by Jacob Wendt himself! That's right, Jacob will be in store for a meet-and-greet, signing, and general hang!

Artist bio:

Bay Area native Jacob Wendt is a drummer, composer, and bandleader in Los Angeles. Although heavily influenced by Jazz and R&B drumming greats of the 1950’s and 60’s, his sound is unique; balanced, supportive, and interactive, with a driving energy that serves the music while leaving space for others to speak — he is an authoritative yet never intrusive player. His original ensembles have headlined major venues across Northern and Southern California including Blue Whale, Yoshi’s, The Fillmore Jazz Festival, Catalina’s Bar & Grille, and The Grape. To date he has released one album as a leader (Jacob Wendt Quartet, 2011) another as co-leader (Carter-White-Wendt, 2013) and collection of original compositions (Jacob Wendt Sextet: Live at the Blue Whale, 2020). His latest project, Silver Street, is a classic hardbop quintet in the spirit of Blue Note Records during the 1950’s & 60’s. The album features all original compositions influenced by jazz greats such as Horace Silver, Sonny Clark, Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter, and Hank Mobley. The album's release date is set for Friday, October 18th, 2024.

Since opening our doors in 2020, one thing we hear over and over again from our customers is that they would like to get into jazz but they don’t know where to begin. We get it! There are so many entry points and the sheer size of the genre can scare people off before they even start exploring. So, we decided to do something about it.⁣

Welcome to The Society of Jazz Explorers. The Society will be a 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝗷𝗮𝘇𝘇 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 at Rust & Wax Record Shop. Each month will have a new theme and 1-2 albums that fit that theme, only the catch is, you won’t know the albums before showing up. Because we believe this act of exploration isn’t just for discovering music you haven’t heard before, it’s also about rediscovering an album you may have forgotten or hearing it in a new light. ⁣
