A Piano in the Sky is a unique sensory experience, an invitation to dream with open eyes.
Inspired by the music of Joe Hisaishi and the enchanting universe of Hayao Miyazaki, Guillaume Masson carries you into an aerial ballet, where notes drift between sky and clouds, blending poetry and pure emotion.
"The films of Studio Ghibli express symbolism, oneirism, and visual beauty, creating a unique and magical experience for the viewer. All these essences are brought to life through the music of composer Joe Hisaishi, who has crafted a musical language inspired by French Impressionist composers, traditional Eastern melodies, and modern pop culture, resulting in some of the most beautiful and poetic film scores of the past decades. As the pianist on this album, I aimed to capture every musical detail of the original scores, from the softest tones to the most powerful themes, striving to preserve the full orchestral richness. Through the expressive possibilities of the piano, my goal was to remain as faithful as possible to Hisaishi's compositions, preserving their emotion and spirit while creating a new - yet familiar - solo piano listening experience. For all these reasons, I'm truly grateful for the opportunity to record this work and delighted to share the result on this album."
